Jowls & Jawline

While some people are born with a jawline they are not happy with, in most cases the jawline appearance is affected by the ageing process. As the skin loses elasticity and begins to sag, the jawline starts to appear soft and lacking definition.

The corners of the mouth also begin to droop, causing ‘marionette lines’ – wrinkles that extend into the jawline creating what is known as ‘jowls’. The lower jaw area loses volume as we age which causes sagging in the lower face. This can result in a loss of definition in the jawline or cheeks and can also dramatically age the appearance of the face. As the face loses elasticity, the skin becomes loose and creates the appearance of drooping.

Sagging jowls can be treated with dermal fillers, which add volume to the affected area and can help accentuate the jawline restoring some definition. More advanced jowls can be treated with a combination of dermal fillers and Botulinum Toxin to help restore both volume and help to give a lifted tighter look; the Botulinum Toxin injections help to relax the muscles in the neck which pull along the jawline thus accentuating the jowls and loss of jawline definition.
